Q. What is the transfer process?

A. Buying and transferring a firearm is frequently defined by the seller within federal and state laws. You deal directly with the seller regarding payment. At that time you should give me full contact information for the seller so I can send my FFL to them. E-mail is the easiest and most common, followed by faxing and a few still want a paper copy sent with the payment (you can pick one up at the shop). Please include all information necessary to identify the transaction (type of gun, auction number, etc). Easiest is to forward a copy of the invoice or auction win notification.

The seller then sends the firearm to me along with a copy of their FFL or drivers license if they are not a dealer. Of course tracking information should be provided to safeguard your purchase. Once the firearm arrives I will contact you to arrange pickup.

Q. Does the seller need to be an FFL?

A. While some FFLs have that requirement, I do not. I only ask that the individual include a photo copy of their drivers license for identification purposes.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. I charge $20 for the first firearm and $10 each for other guns picked up at the same time. I am happy to store incoming guns for a few days but can not offer free long term storage. Cash, check and major credit cards are accepted for payment.

Q. What is required to pick up the firearm?

A. You will need to bring your drivers license or other suitable photo ID and CPL (Concealed Pistol License) if you have one. An FBI background check will be conducted if you do not have a CPL and all the necessary paperwork completed. For handgun transfers we will need to complete the Michigan Pistol Sales Record form. You no longer have to obtain the Pistol Sales Record form from a Police/Sheriff office prior to getting the transfer. Everything can be completed at my shop.

Q. How long will it take to pick up the firearm?

A. Usually 15 to 20 minutes unless we get talking guns or politics and then who knows. I use the FBI online NICS (background check) system and to date have very few delays of over a minute or two.

Q. What are your hours?

A. My posted hours are Tues-Friday 10AM-1PM and 3PM to 6PM. Typically, I am in the shop every weekday during these hours but being a one-man shop it is hard to guarantee I'll be here all day all week. It is best if you e-mail or call to ensure I am in the shop.

Q. Do you handle Class 3 transfers?

A. Not at this time.
